8 New-Age Sci-fi Movies on our watchlist

Been a while since Star Wars had a contender and in dire honesty, a lot wouldn’t look for it. But that doesn’t disregard the newer choices that spring up and leave the viewers in a state of awe. A good Sci-fi movie requires a good storyline, a great cast, and quite a bit of out-of-the-world action. Here’s a set of some movies we added to our watchlist and something you’d love to do as well.

1. Gemini Man (2019)

Genre – Drama, Action, Sci-fi Cast – Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Clive Owen

Carrying on the legacy, Will Smith comes up with another banger assuming the role of a hitman set to retire. However, the movie takes another turn as his corrupt department assigns a younger version of himself to his death. A tale of double trouble but a storyline that could be worked on, Gemini Man is something that would amaze Sci-fi lovers.

2. Tenet ( 2020)

Genre – Action, Sci-fi

Cast – Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, John David Washington and Himesh Patel

Christopher Nolan at it again with this flick shot in the financial heart of the Indian Subcontinent, Mumbai. The story revolves around John Washington, employed under ‘Tenet’ - a secret organization; as he aims to foil the plot of World War III by manipulating time itself. Interstellar had us on our toes with concepts of space and time. Tenet should hopefully be another.

3. Bumblebee ( 2019)

Genre – Action, Sci-fi

Cast – Peter Cullen, Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Dylan O’Brien, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

B-127 is sent to Earth by the Autobots and thus evolves a new age of Sci-fi warfare between them and the Decepticons. Uncover mind-boggling action scenes and intricate details as this film has shrapnel flying all around you. As B-127 befriends a girl named Charlie, he grows to become ‘Bumblebee’.

4. Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018)

GenreAction, Adventure, Sci-fi

Cast Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, and Judy Greer

An epilogue to the previous Ant-Man movie and largely admired by the audience (who are we kidding. It’s Marvel), the movie revolves around the story of venturing back into the portal attempting to bring back Hope’s mother. While an average movie would end the story right there, Marvel has tricks up its sleeve. Watch a villain forced out of desperation and time ticking against both the sides of good and ugly.

5. Hotel Artemis ( 2018)

Genre – Action, Sci-fi, Thriller Cast – Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum and Sterling K. Brown

Although a lesser-known movie with a tad bit of a lower score on IMDb, Hotel Artemis hopes to create the feels of a thrilling storyline. The flick runs in line with a dark and eerie members-only emergency room for criminals. Times escalate when the most dangerous crime lord attempts to recover at the hotel. The movie creates an exceptional and heightened state of tension alongside suspense but fails to live up to its expectations. But we’re sure it can be given another try

6. Downsizing ( 2017)

Genre – Sci-fi, Comedy

Cast – Matt Damon, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig, and Christoph Waltz

Downsizing is never the easiest if one’s on the narrow end of it. Matt Damon is in a similar position in this 2017 Sci-fi flick. However, downsizing takes quite a literal meaning as people are shrunk to smaller states of themselves. Watch as Matt gets shrunk, loses out on the earlier ‘wife et life’, finds another reason to learn, and finds happiness however small it may be. Since this movie goes against the normal, generic bloodlines of movies we thought of adding it to our list. Although the ratings might not agree with our decisions, we’d hope you take our word on it.

7. The Invisible Man (2020)

Genre – Horror, Sci-fi, Thriller Cast – Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson Cohen, and Aldis Hodge

A movie that’ll have you sitting on a duck squat ready to bolt out of the room and leave you wondering about your night away. The movie which should have a disclaimer runs on the lines of a psychological thriller with Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss) claiming that she’s being hunted by an ‘invisible man’, a person whom only she can see. Watch it and experience her thoughts and actions engulf your own.

8. Spider-man: Far From Home (2019)

Genre – Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Cast – Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, and Zendaya.

It’s thoughtful, it’s the webster, it’s Spider-Man. Tom Holland again assumes his role as Peter Parker with a high school trip to Europe. The story takes drastic turns as Mysterio a.k.a The hero but also the lack of one shows up pestering his attempts to pronounce his love to MJ, his classmate back at school. Psst! Mum’s the word. Check the movie out now!

The concept of movies has been that of an emerging trend and because Sci-fi has stepped up boundaries over the previous decade there’s only more we can expect out of it. And if there’s one that does grab your attention, we have you covered. Coming up with more to see and more to experience. Until then, May the Force be with You.
